Old Spice is one of the most well-known hygiene products in the world. While some may remember it for it's catchy jingle, I know I remember the name after seeing it's whimsical, yet hysterical, commercials. In their most recent commercial "Smellcome to Manhood" the idea represented is that Old Spice can turn boys into men. The commercial shows moms singing and lamenting the recent maturity of their boys. The ad was first shown on the Super Bowl, one of the most ideal times for ads to play as a comic relief. Old Spice receives the help of many celebrity endorsements, like Terry Crews, to help grab viewer’s attention. Their commercials can be viewed on their own website or their Facebook page. You can also find their entertaining posts updated on their Twitter page or their newest addition to their social media platforms, their Tumblr site. The outlandish advertisements continue even further on all sites, with random status updates and ludicrous images of men using the product. The company goes even further with their love for their audience by posting a link to coupons for money off of their merchandise. Old Spice does a remarkable job advertising online as is, but I personally think reaching out to a market beyond men could increase their sales even more. Many of their commercials I believe to be directed at men, seeing as the product is for men. They could also reach out to wives and girlfriends of the men to develop an even bigger fan base.
Whoever is in charge of Old Spice's social media seriously has a job set out for life.
"There comes a time in every man’s life when he must commit to one person completely. This is followed by seven stages that include contentment, denial, restless leg syndrome, bargaining, hunger, model trains and a deep understanding of and connection with the instruction manual for his leaf blower."
